Hear and Say
Hear and Say is Queensland’s specialised provider of audiology and speech pathology for all people with hearing loss. We operate state-wide and support people of all ages – from newborn babies, to toddlers, school age children and adults.
Meet Ashton
Ashton is a bright, funny and curious young boy who loves rugby league!
Ashton passed his Universal Newborn Hearing Screen, but in November 2023 at the age of 5, his family discovered he had a progressive hearing loss. He enrolled in Hear and Say's program in May 2024, beginning a journey that would see him transition from hearing aids to cochlear implants as his hearing changed.
In March 2025, Ashton’s first cochlear implant was switched on at Hear and Say. Then, in July 2026, he reached another special milestone when his second cochlear implant was switched on.
Ashton and his parents are now working regularly with our Listening and Spoken Language specialists and Audiologists to optimise his speech and hearing with a cochlear implant in each ear.
With the support of his family and the Hear and Say team, Ashton continues to grow, learn and connect with the world around him. His engaging personality, infectious enthusiasm and wonderful sense of humour shine through, and he isn't afraid to turn up the volume when talking about the things he loves!
This Loud Shirt Day, you can help children like Ashton hear, speak and connect with the world around them.
Sign up, wear something loud and colourful, and raise vital funds to support Hear and Say. Together, we can help children with hearing loss find their voice and a lifetime of possibility.
