Did you know?1 in 6 Australians and New Zealanders are impacted by hearing loss – a figure set to rise to 1 in 4 by 2060.
1 in 1,000 Babies in Australia and New Zealand are born with a permanent hearing loss.
1 in 300 School-age children require assistance because of permanent hearing loss.

Riley James Mills
Friday 25th Sep My son Riley who turns 3 in October was diagnosed at birth with sensorineural hearing loss which is a permanent type of hearing impairment caused by damage to the tiny hair cells in the inner ear that carries signals to the brain. Fortunately with this early diagnosis we were able to implement supports such as hearing aids which he began wearing at 8 months, speech therapists and regular testing. As a new Mum it was frightening to comprehend this news as I placed unnecessary blame on myself as well as not understanding my son’s future in this hearing and speaking world in which we all live in. Three years on I can see now that Riley is not identified as a deaf child .. but “Riley our outgoing, very talkative boy with a hearing loss”, who is loved and adored by so many. Yes people say regularly “You can’t even tell when he talks”, I take that as a compliment for the hard work we have done as a family along with the experts in his support team. 🩵 ShareThank you to my donors
