Celebrating Super Powers on Loud Shirt Day

And here we go again, another year of Loud Shirt Day, raising awareness for kids with hearing impairment. So many years have passed since we started our journey and, oh boy, there is still so much to learn about this incredible world. Every journey is different, and I am proud to be the mom of a beautiful, smart boy who wears what he calls his “Super Powers” (aka hearing aids) with pride. He often wonders why people who wear glasses aren’t considered to have a “disability,” yet he remains so curious, open, and accepting of people’s differences.

So, why is Loud Shirt Day so important? For us, it’s a chance to stop and reflect on the incredible value of all the professionals who have supported us along the way. Our boy once struggled with speech and was falling “behind” before his diagnosis, but today he’s a chatterbox, passionate about communication in every form, whether it’s writing, reading, or speaking. He just nails it all. We feel incredibly lucky for the support we’ve had from the very beginning, and I truly wish every child could have the same opportunities.

So let’s raise awareness once again. Let’s wear our loudest shirts and celebrate the Super Powers of these beautiful children across Australia and around the world. My hope is that every child feels as proud of their Super Powers as my little boy does, and that every family has access to the some amazing professionals like the ones who have walked beside us on this journey.
