Get LOUD for kids with hearing loss!
Hearing loss is the most common condition diagnosed at birth in Australia and New Zealand — and by school age, 1 in 300 children will have permanent hearing loss.
For our family, those statistics have a name: Bram.
Bram has permanent hearing loss and has been incredibly lucky to receive specialist support at school through Telethon Speech & Hearing’s wonderful Outpost program. Having specialist hearing support embedded in his everyday school life has meant so much to Bram and to us.
Sadly, we now know that Bram will lose access to the Outpost program at his school at the end of this year. After seeing firsthand just how valuable this specialist support is for children with hearing loss, it is incredibly disappointing to know that something that has made such a difference to him will no longer be there.
It also makes this year’s Loud Shirt Day feel particularly important to us.
Around half of children with hearing loss receive no specialist support. By getting LOUD and donating to Loud Shirt Day, you’ll help Telethon Speech & Hearing continue providing life-changing services that give children with hearing loss the opportunity to communicate, connect, learn and thrive.
