It's that time of year to raise awareness and funds of a topic that is very close to my heart.
Hearing loss is the most common condition diagnosed at birth in Australia and New Zealand - my son was one of those; diagnosed with permanent bilateral hearing loss. By school age, 1 in 300 children will have permanent hearing loss.
My family was very lucky because we got a lot of support and early intervention from Perth Children's Hospital and at 5 months, we started attending TSH (previously known as Telethon Speech and Hearing). Sadly, half of the children in Australia with hearing loss receive no specialist support, but you can help change that.
